SOMALILAND

Somaliland is a self-declared and unrecognized de-facto sovereign state that is officially part of Somalia. It regards itself as the successor to the goverment of British Somaliland (whose former territory it encompases) which was briefly the State of Somaliland before uniting with the Trust Territory of Somaliland (formerly Italian Somaliland) to form Somalia. Somaliland is bordered by Ethiopia, Djibouti, the Gulf of Aden, and the autonomous Puntland region of Somalia.
