Where in the world is Rhodesia and Nyasaland? Rhodesia and Nyasaland was a state in southern Africa from 1953 to 1963. It contained the self-governing territory of Northern Rhodesia, and the British protectorates of Nyasaland and Northern Rhodesia. It was officially known as the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland, as well as the Central African Federation (CAF). The Federation ended in 1963 when Northern Rhodesia gained independence as Zambia, Nyasaland gained independence as Malawi, and Southern Rhodesia became known first as Rhodesia and later as Zimbabwe.
