Japan is an island nation in East Asia whose official name translates almost directly to the State of Japan. It extends from the Sea of Okhotsk in the north to the East China Sea and Taiwan in the south. Japan is located in the Pacific Ocean and is to the east of China, North Korea, South Korea, Russia, and the Sea of Japan. Japan was the site of the only nuclear weapons to be deployed against another nation when the USA bombed the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
