ITALIAN SOMALILAND

Italian Somaliland was a colony of the Kingdom of Italy from the 1880s until 1936. It was located in the Horn of Africa. Italian Somaliland went through a series of ownerships, first as part of the Italian empire until World War I in 1941, then it came under British jurisdiction until 1946 when it became a UN trusteeship under Italian control (as the Trust Territory of Somalia). This form lasted until 1960 when it was united with State of Somaliland (formerly British Somaliland) to form the Somali Republic.
