Israel (officially the State of Israel) is a parliamentary republic in the Middle East. It borders Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, the West Bank, Egypt, the Gaza Strip, and the Gulf of Aqaba (in the Red Sea). Approximately 6 million of its almost 8 million residents are Jewish. It has one of the highest life expectancies in the world, and the highest standard of living in the Middle East.
