Guadeloupe is a Caribbean island to the north of Venezuela and to the southeast of Puerto Rico. It is an overseas department of France, and as such all citizens of Guadeloupe are also French citizens. The department of Guadeloupe contains not only Guadeloupe island itself, but also the smaller nearby islands of Marie-Galante, La Désirade, and the Îles des Saintes. Guadeloupe is also considered to be within the French Antilles.
