Gabon is in west central Africa. Its coastline faces the part of the Atlantic Ocean known as the Gulf of Guinea. Gabon gained independence from France in 1960. Unlike many African nations its natural resources and democratic government have led to prosperity. Its banknote issues are currently part of the Central African States authority.
