Where in the world is French West Africa?

French West Africa was a federation of eight French colonial territories in Africa which existed from 1895 until 1960. The former member territories are Côte d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast), Dahomey (now Benin), French Guinea (now Guinea), French Sudan (now Mali), Mauritania, Niger, Senegal, and Upper Volta (now Burkina Faso). Several of the former colonies in French West Africa now have their banknotes issued by the monetary authority of the West African States.
