The Falkland islands are an archipelago in the South Pacific Ocean to the east of the southern tip of South America (adjacent to Argentinia). They are a self-governing British Overseas Territory. Both the UK and Argentinia have historically made claims to the island, but Argentinia continues to make claim on the islands despite the results of the Falklands War and the islanders' expressed desire to remain British citizens.
