China is located to the south of Mongolia, and to the east of Kyrgzystan and Tajikistan. It shares its southern border with the South China Sea, and its eastern border with the East China Sea. In ancient history, before China split into the Peoples Republc of China and Taiwan, China's political system was based on dynasties. The Qing dynasty was the final dynasty before the country separated into many pieces. Because the chinese city of Hong Kong was a British colony for over a century, there are several ways in which, legally and politically, it is treated as a separate entity. Sharing a similar status (and thus also issuing its own currency) is Macau, lying across the Pearl River Delta from Hong Kong.
