Where in the world is Burundi? Burundi is a country in central Africa. Although landlocked, much of its southwestern border is adjacent to Lake Tanganyika. It is one of the five poorest countries in the world, with only around 6% of the population living in urban areas. It was formerly a part of German East Africa until Germany's defeat in WWII.
