Azerbaijan is to the west of the Caspian Sean and to the east of Armenia. Its capital is Baku, which is located on the eastern most tip of Azerbaijan. The official language is Azerbaijani, and the government is a Presidential Republic. After the collapse of the Russian Empire during World War I, Azerbaijan, together with Armenia and Georgia became part of the short-lived Transcaucasian Democratic Federative Republic. In May 1918, the republic dissolved. Azerbaijan was the first muslim nation to grant women the same political rights as men.
