1918 $50 F831. St Louis. The $50 denomination was issued only for St Louis. The late William A Philpott ("Mr Phil")
owned a hoard of some 30 notes, which he released gradually at ever-increasing prices. This particular note is the plate
note for Hessler [The Comprehensive Catalog of US Paper Money]. It was sold publicly by Hickman and Oakes in 1986 and
by Stack's in 1990. In both of those sales it was described as Crisp Uncirculated. However, the note has a faint pressed,
centerfold - [Mr Phil had a reputation as a "washer and presser", in an era when this was not frowned upon].
